If your dog is not brushed &/or combed on a daily basis, they will very quickly begin to look as if they had never been groomed. Dogs get the equivalent of "bed-head", but it covers their entire body. Dogs, being dogs, will generally roll in a variety of unspeakable things when outdoors, which will add to the deterioration of that freshly groomed look.

If you are unable to get a comb through your dog's coat what makes you think the groomer will? This will undoubtedly necessitate them being dematted by their groomer. Dematting is not pleasant for either the dog OR the groomer.

Any dog that requires more than 15 minutes of dematting WILL be shaved shorter than the owner prefers. This is done for the dog's comfort - dematting is painful for the dog. This can be alleviated if the owner does their due diligence at home by proper COMBING of their dog AND regular schedule at the groomer (your groomer will let you know what is an appropriate length of time between visits for the length you wish to maintain).

If it is necessary for the groomer to demat a dog on EVERY visit, the dog will very quickly begin to associate pain with being groomed and will begin to HATE being groomed. Being groomed should NOT be a traumatic (or painful) experience for a dog, but if the groomer is always the "bad guy" it won't take long for the dog to associate the sight of groomer with pain and discomfort and begin acting out both at the groomer and at home.

Kirby received 300 hours (8 weeks) of professional grooming instruction by a Certified Master Groomer at Pets Beautiful, Inc., London Ontario (CANADA). ALL the facets of dog grooming, from trimming nails to performing specialized clipping were taught. This course encompassed a wide range of topics, including but not limited to, canine anatomy. (Jan/Feb 1997)

Kirby also attended the Self Employment Assistance Program which covers Self Employment, Business Planning, Etc. taught by the YM/YWCA Employment Training Services, Winnipeg Manitoba (CANADA) (Aug/Sept 1997)
